(Blood Bath Remix)

Mr CRF – Feel The Funk

Long time HH Head Mr CRF drops “Feel The Funk”, a sick track – his rhymes over some live drums and the video is tight and echoes the vibe. I love this stuff. I really do. Quite interesting times since I have a live drum session recorded with Anthony Michael Angelo (“Dash The Cloud”) so it’s only fitting, we do more when it’s called for.

Gear Lust:

To have an intense desire for equipment,

usually beyond any logical need of the musician.

Let’s face it, I spend an inordinate amount of time at Sam Ash. Let’s rewind. It was years ago, but still feels like yesterday. I am circling the keyboard area and waiting for the pro audio rep to be free. He tells me hold on a second as he finishes up with the previous customer. See, I have a wad of cash in an envelope, in my pocket and I know this is a pivotal moment. Up till then, I’ve been using an old AKAI S- series sampler and now I’m about to buy a brand new Ensoniq ASR-10. It’s a workstation sampler and in my mind, the purchase represents crossing a line that now means I’m serious. Yes, that’s the “big box carried out” , but if you know the ASR-10, you aint carrying that thing under one arm like I am in the video.

Over the years, I’ve met many friends and musicians at Sam Ash. From producer Nate Tinsley to Jen to Anthony Michael Angelo, who plays guitar on “Dash the Cloud”. Sam Ash is an incredible place to meet, greet, jam and of course buy gear. So it only made sense to ask Sam Ash (Huntington) to sponsor my video for “Gear Lust”. A super thank you for supporting Dynamics Plus and his Rocket Science album. Of course Jen does a cameo along with David Weintraub from the bands Terra Stigma and Olive Drabs. Thanks, although he had a little too much fun cutting up my credit card.

Enjoy the video.

With ‘Boxing The Girl’, Domino Grey reaches the end of his Butterfly Affect Series – interview on Soundlooks

Soundlooks interview with Domino Grey

Domino Grey

It Feels Right to end the Butterfly Affect Series

With the release of his latest E.P. Boxing The Girl, Domino Grey reaches the end of his Butterfly Affect Series.

This arc of music includes instrumentals that swing from pure listening vibes to house-inspired party tracks. We sit down with this electronic artist and pick his brain over the latest releases.

Where did the obsession with butterflies come from and what does it all mean?

I wouldn’t say obsessed. It’s just the overall umbrella idea that I had everything fall under. Butterfly into caterpillar- everyone gets that. People changing over time…deciding to see yourself as you are and not through the eyes of others… The affect instead of effect, because I’m talking about how these thoughts influence our self-image and self-esteem. If you think you’re a caterpillar, you will crawl instead of fly.

But the goal is to make dance music, isn’t it? To be a part of that scene…

Well yes and many find it strange that I’d try to inject meanings and metaphors into music where- making them move is the main motive. But not every song is weighed down in deep thought or me trying to impart some kind of message. Sometimes it’s just in the liner notes. Sometimes it’s just one track and the rest are straight cuts. I party too.

The big idea for Boxing The Girl is a long, rambling message from a girl in a bit of trouble. What’s the story behind that?

I always pull my song ideas from real-life events. Usually I clean them up and make them universal enough so that everyone can relate without exposing anyone too much. We have all gotten or left an embarrassing or somewhat compromising series of messages. It’s just that no one usually saves them and slaps them on top of some music.

New Year’s A New Year – music from Domino Grey

New Music from Domino Grey “New Year’s A New Year”

Album Artwork Domino Grey New Year's A New Year

New music with a message

Domino Grey and Michael from RadioWaves.US present a special message for the New Year. Vocal edit and instrumental available plus bonus Happy New Year song.

“Hello everyone. This is Michael from RadioWaves.US with Domino Grey. Now that New Years has passed and a NEW YEAR is upon us, I’d like to share some important thoughts about your next 365 days.

We use New Years as a marker of hope to bring sweeping CHANGES to our lives. Too often, we find ourselves dreaming of a better life
Most of us dream about becoming rich and draw up lofty plans and ideas about how to change our cash flow. A more realistic goal is to IMPROVE our finances by monitoring how much we spend and what we spend it on. Consider where your money goes and even where it comes from and make improvements. Eliminating foolish spending on disposable items and empty entertainment can go a long way to improving your month to month budget.

We hope to change our relationships by changing people. We see ourselves as operating in the right and everyone else that doesn’t agree, operating in the wrong. That’s a very black and white way to look at our friends and partners. Consider the idea that in-between the Black and White, there is Grey.

Disagreements and stalemates occur when we find ourselves arguing to be right, instead of sharing our ideas and concepts. We never need to change what makes our relationships special, but we can improve them by remembering why people were accepted into our lives.

And lastly, we all want to change the shape of our bodies, but how about improving our health instead? Instead of looking in a mirror and waiting for change, you can look in your kitchen and see the improvement. Choosing to eat better is choosing to live better. It’s not about working out but working out a balanced life of responsible eating and exercise.

This is Michael from RadioWaves.US with Domino Grey wishing you a productive and safe year.”

Please touch the walls and leave behind the fingerprints as evidence of your existence.

This song can be downloaded for free by clicking on the far-right download button on the SoundCloud player. Thank you for all your support.

So it’s the end of another year and my guilty thought has been to pray for things to stay the same. Yeah, that’s right. I’m hoping 2013 will be just like 2012. I’m hoping for the health of my friends and family. I’m hoping that my situation doesn’t take any knocks and how successful I am will solely depend on my own actions.

I don’t know if I ever shared this on my blog, but I keep this giant calendar from Staples that I use to track what goes down for the year. At the end, I review the year’s events and check the sheet in the back that has all my yearly goals and resolutions.

I noticed that THE SAME RESOLUTIONS kept appearing year after year. I kept setting these huge goals and never meeting them. It wasn’t that I didn’t have a plan; it was that I had a horrible plan. I was going to accomplish each goal with one big move. Yep. At some point I’d do something spectacular and BAM! New Level Baby.

I actually started knocking out my list when I decided to ‘work’ in a direction instead of planning on arriving at some vague point in the future. I’m sure I will never be satisfied with How I’m doing, What I’m doing or where I’m doing it. But, there is great satisfaction in simply doing all that you can do. Have a safe and productive 2013.

Domino Grey Night Zone MOTG Original Concept- Video Release

November 12, 2012 Leave a comment

Night Zone Extended NOTES

The plan for Mark of the Griffin episode 3 was centered on “Night Zone Qualibra Straitor” from the Domino Grey release Get It Up, Lay It Down. I was going to- basically make a video for a song. I had reservations about breaking the MOTG flow- up so early in. I felt like I had just established a pattern and knew that I would be changing direction in the very near future [in two more episodes- to be exact].

I tried slipping Night Zone into the soundtrack, but it didn’t fit and the track “My First Chemistry Set” by Dynamics Plus was already so powerful in the dream sequence. What to do, what to do, what to do.

I also had a few pick up shots that were filmed after the original launch based on the general reaction(s) to the episode. It was supposed to be ambiguous and leave you wondering what was real and what was only imagined by Marcus Griffin. Was the doll really in the woods? Did it really get chilly? Was there really a smell? Was it the same doll? When creating something that’s supposed to be so open to interpretation, you have everyone filling in their own blanks and drawing their own conclusions. I failed somewhat as a storyteller as I was hoping to give hints about answers, but not leave so many questions.

Domino Grey Night Zone

Domino Grey Night Zone. MOTG Original Concept

I knew I could add extra scenes and lessen some of the mystery in the season one full length movie due in early 2013, but I didn’t want to leave this episode hanging for so long. Now I get to include those extra shots and tighten the narrative and create another stand-alone experience. There is an alternate ending that I worked on, but I might be leaving that for the full-length feature.

I present a slight re-editing of the Night Zone story over the original music I had in mind when I was writing episode 3. Thank you again to all involved and for you the viewers. Keep sharing and spreading the word. #MOTG    -Drew Spence

So with the changing trend of indie artists doing it all themselves, Dynamica Music/AVXP is placing all of our artists in rotation on the radio with a  heavy emphasis for online  stations. One of the newest ones is Earbits.

Earbits online radio!

Earbits is a marketing platform for music related products built around interactive radio experiences.

Earbits (www.earbits.com) works directly with labels, high quality artists and live music event promoters to create innovative internet radio-based promotions that turn listeners into loyal fans and consumers. They provide commercial-free streaming music on Earbits.com, Earbits Mobile Radio apps, and across a variety of affiliate website partners.

http://www.facebook.com/earbits

————————————-

The PROs are the relatively huge number of spins for your $$ campaign. There is a Facebook like button embedded in your profile and you are able to collect the email addresses of your fans and easily export them to your regular contact list.

The singular CON is the lack of a true profile page that streams ONLY your own music. The play lists are generated by genre and region so you can’t directly target your music exclusively. That’s a great system for touring or performance-heavy bands that need regional or home-base concentration, but for artists who want a more global reach…

Overall Earbits provide a great online radio experience with high quality music, but I would like a little more control over the station’s feed.

A Rapper named Centri

“I’m the Master of the Universe; a Man-At-Arms
Still heavily armed with only one arm like Carl Weathers in the Predator”

-Dynamics Plus in “Motion Lesson”

Lenzmen. We are a bunch of scientific emcees and friends. We’ve been recording together and hanging out (and bickering) for over a decade. There’s four of us. Me, producer and lyricist Dynamics Plus. Doktor Strange the Hybrid who moved back to Long Island recently. There’s Earthadox who’s now down south making his waves and Centri who’s in Brooklyn. We’ve been splintered but still stay in contact and each member is doing his own music-related projects.

Lenzmen Rapper Centri Image

Vetted Veteran

Centri has been doing collabos with other rappers (Skyzoo, Planet Asia, Supastar Straps and Sha Stimuli- to name a few). Great for him. Unknown to most is that Centri has had shoulder problems for years, with a shoulder that’s quick to dislocate and pop out. Of course, as boys, we had to crack on his [Special Ed] fake arm. Well recently he underwent surgery and had a complication, which left his arm useless for a minute. Instead of laying up lame and making excuses or pushing his projects back, he’s decided to go full force and keep pounding on his music. This has led him to come out to my studio and marathon-record tons of tracks.

I sometimes forget about the chemistry and friendship that forges a group that goes way beyond music. It’s also humbling and inspiring to see his bandaged arm stuffed in his pocket to protect it – all the while spitting verses like rapping is the most important thing in life. And you know what, as an Emcee, he’s right; rapping is the most important thing in life. That’s why he raps that way. If you’ve claimed to be a rapper or producer and you have any excuses as to why you haven’t completed your project, shame on you.

Grinding for most artists means worrying about music 24-7. For those better, it means working on music straight for 72 hours. For the best, it means grinding through adversity until you reach your goals. If he can do it with one arm, what’s your excuse?
