Number One Music is a scam

Number One Music is a scam

Number One Music is a Scam

Try to keep your music ambitions based in reality

As an independent artist and label owner, I’m always looking for new avenues to share/promote/push my music, I am always keen on using various profile sites to spread the word. Years ago, I joined NumberOneMusic and created a profile. I also registered at LastFM, DMusic and iSound all around the same time so NumberOneMusic was pretty much lost in the shuffle. At that point, I think MySpace was the big site for musicians looking to gain fans and attention. I made a little bit of noise on LastFM, but noticed a sudden spike of activity on NumberOneMusic.

I started getting TONS of FANS every day. I also got a huge amount of comments and people sharing their email addresses with me. Nice! The only thing that concerned me is that my music was pretty much ‘underground’ and really shouldn’t be getting this much love from the masses. I may have been a dreamer back then, but I was also self-aware enough to know I made niche music.

I started to doubt my results when I didn’t see any traffic leaving the site to follow my links. I figured the people on NumberOneMusic STAYED on NumberOneMusic and didn’t migrate off site- even to follow an artist they are supposed to be a die-hard fan of.

Fast forward to 2010. I kept hearing about ReverbNation and decided to join up. Reverb has a section to link all your social networking sites- so I Googled myself to find all the hubs and drop them in one place. I found my NumberOneMusic profile and signed back in. I checked out my account. I found the first hints of a scam in progress, but didn’t think it could be true.

1. I saw that I had about 2,000 fan email addresses. Pretty much all of them were gathered during my free trial period and almost none after. I thought, maybe when you join, you get put on the front page so your exposure is greater.

2. I saw tons of music plays for that period and also a complete drop off after my trial ended. I figured they weren’t showing my profile on their genre-specific pages so I’m the one that’s lost in the shuffle now.

3. I paid around $15 bucks to reactivate my account for a month in order to get access to those email addresses. By then, I had my own newsletter service (the somewhat pricey Constant Contact) and wanted to export them to my own data bank. I did.

4. Upon reactivation, the attention exploded again: tons of emails, comments and attention. Wow. It seemed too good to be true. I checked out all the genre pages and didn’t see my stuff listed. I checked the front page…nope. I wondered how the hell everyone knew I was back to being active on their site again.

5. In a rash move, I signed up for six months (about $69.00USD). At this time I was doing other social networking campaigns so NumberOneMusic didn’t stick out in my mind so much. It was bothering me that all the other pitches had less activity, but you could trace the trail of bread crumbs back to my promotional campaign. I decided to look into NumberOneMusic more closely.

6. I sent an email blast to my new NumberOneMusic email list and checked the results. It was 80% bounced (no person or active email account at the other end) 18% SPAM and 2% who knows. I thought that was weird. Why would you sign up as a fan and suddenly go cold? Something smells fishy in Demark (Russia more like, but hold on a second).

7. After doing some web searches about their company, I found an address for an empty suite in Manhattan New York registered under the same Russian names listed as programmers on their site. I checked into their accounting and they were using 2CO (A business like Paypal so you understand), which I also use for some of my business transactions. I called and 2CO listed them as a new account so it seems every few months they switch money handlers. I’m not sure who they are with now, but their jumping around is not a good sign.

8. I did a plain Google search for reviews and feedback and found TONS of musicians echoing my experience. I would love to live off the hope that there is some chance that, oh 100s of musicians are wrong and I’m really a brilliant artist on this one website and I should keep u$ing it.

9. I sent NumberOneMusic a long letter explaining my concerns and wanted a refund for the six months. In 1 hour they deleted my account (never mind the 1 month trial that I was still in) and any reference to my artist name on their site. Ouch.

The reason this is all coming up now, is that on my ReverbNation site, which gets descent activity, has shown a spike in fan comments. Those comments are glowing and suggest that I use NumberOneMusic for more exposure. Wow. Here we go again. So apparently NumberOneMusic is up to their old tricks again. Musicians beware.

Let’s talk seriously and answer a few questions before you ask them.

How Good Are You?

As a musician you need to have a sobering view of your own music and understand your genre and fan base and the reality of how well your music is likely to be received. If you are out of touch with the world at large and choose to live inside your own head, where you are brilliant and talented and the rest of the world is just too dumb to realize your genius, I don’t know what to say.

How Should I Rate My Music and Potential?

This is an ongoing process that is reflected by other people’s reaction to your music. There must be SOME SORT of reaction you hoped to elicit- from joyous frolicking to thoughtful beard scratching to solemn brooding. The question is: does your music cause that? That’s the only gauge you need.

How Do I Get More Meaningful Fans?

Meaningful is the question since anyone can amass the things that ‘fans do’ without having actual fans doing it. That means LIKES on Facebook, friends on MySpace or followers on Twitter. All those stats and numbers sound great, but in reality you want SUPPORTERS, not fans. You want to attract people that HELP your music move forward. This is achieved by sharing an experience to create an experience.

I don’t lean on terms like ‘enjoy’ or ‘Good Music’ since it doesn’t really make a difference in the overall scheme of things. You want to foster a connection between your music and the people listening to it. Either they ‘feel it’ or they don’t. Either you put your feelings into your music or you don’t. I know many musicians/producers who hope to create a personal impression by using an impersonal technical approach. You can’t argue someone into liking a song, but you can aggressively share your music- as opposed to waiting to be discovered. That’s the side of the MUSIC Business most artists want to pretend doesn’t exist- or that they don’t need to worry about. Let the label handle that stuff.

This is how scam sites like NumberOneMusic.com stay in business. They prey on your inflated ego and know that you want to create an entire career off the merit of how good your artistry is. The real world doesn’t work that way. Never has and never will. In these times, flattery will still get you everywhere and the quickest way to an artists pocket is to tell them they are going to be a star. Number One Music is using bots, clever programming and cheap hired help to tell you that you are great. Don’t fall for it. Its okay (and even sensible) to pay for exposure. Among millions of artists, the difference between Musician A and Musician B might be the difference of who is the most $erious.

This means you are willing to INVEST in yourself. Just be aware that every penny spent, is not a penny sent wisely. Earn your accolades by truly being talented and expressing your creativity. Find out by sharing yourself with potential fans. Do your shows, make your appearances, hand out your CDs and talk to the people you encounter. Become who you hope to be and live an artistic life. Don’t hide behind a computer screen and bank on a viable career being something you can download.

Let the internet be a reflection of what you have accomplished in the real world. Count your fans as the number of people who have been inspired by you- to support your aims and goals as an artist.

Lastly, don’t be confused by a few “success” stories. Not everything is black or white. Many of these sites that sell beats or offer tons of exposure for cheap offer some true avenues for minimal success. If they can fool you, why can’t they fool someone who wants to use the service for legitimate reasons? Test your results and motivate you “fans” into action. If you can do that; you have an engine worth using.

Last thoughts are from the wise Griffin Avid:

Promotion is active.
Sharing is inactive.
Promoting means you are doing something MANY TIMES.
Sharing is doing something once.

Promotion means I have to say no to avoid your pitch.
Sharing means I have to say yes to hear your pitch.

Promotion = Click to Close
Sharing = Click to open

A true sales pitch is concerned with presenting the AD in front of an interested audience. You want some sort of filter. You want traffic that makes sense, not just numbers.
That’s why certain commercials come on at certain times, during certain shows. And the same company has different commercials for the same product. You (if you’re serious) would need to understand this and apply it to your own attempts.

It’s not easy to corral traffic, or basically create/develop a customer/subscriber list. Anyone who has done it monetizes or controls what their base sees. So you are never able to randomly pitch to them. So, you have to contact that blog owner, get in touch with that DJ/host, join or somehow reach out to the people that matter.

Ask yourself the serious question: Am I going after props or profit? Am I chasing Dreams or Dollars? Am I looking to be COMPENSATED for my artistry or looking for a short-cut? I say: if it’s easy to do, it probably aint worth doing.

Stay smart and productive.

UPDATE APRIL 2017

And they are STILL up their old tricks, unless you believe this is a real person. And N1M is Soooo popular that ONLY on reverb nation do anonymous N1M members ask you to sign up for their service weekly, like clockwork. I guess their email server spams on Thursdays. Ask yourself. Why would ANY FAN of Music on N1M run around asking random artists to join? People (most likely their reps) often pop on my blog, insult me and say I’m a loser for missing out by not signing up. lol

I would agree with you, had the same exp on number one music.. don’t use credit cards on the net thats why I’ve never paid for their deal……

  2. September 3, 2012 at 8:51 pm

I had a pro account briefly at N1M just to ‘see’. Well, I saw alright. I got a lot of bogus email addresses, strangely odd comments and ‘lots’ of ‘plays’ without promotion of any kind. Once my ‘pro’ account lapsed, that all stopped abruptly. In the years since I’ve joined, I can honestly say I’ve only ever received one legitimate email from that site and that was about a month ago from an A&R rep looking to sign and/or manage artists. I also suspect that that A&R rep just went through the roster of artists on the site and did a mass mailing. Save your money and choose a real site with real listeners like Broadjam or ReverbNation. Or, take the money you were thinking of using for N1M and self-publish your material through CDBaby to iTunes, Amazon, eMusic and other name brand sites where you will receive real plays (and purchases) from real people. Of course, you will still have to promote your music to get those plays and purchases.

    • September 4, 2012 at 12:01 am

So true. There’s just no easy way to build a foundation of support. Thanks for the comment and thanks for the heads up about Broadjam.

where did your money go you spent for the Numberonemusic-Membership? Could you easily cancel your account and stop the untrusty payment from your bank account after knowing that this site is definetely a scam??

      • September 10, 2014 at 6:44 am

Where did the money go? Other than the privilege of membership, no where really. When I purchase from sites like this, I tend to pay one-time payments of a fixed amount. I think N1M was like $99 for 6 or 12 months. I never set up recurring subscriptions for things like that. I also always wait out the entire period just to see if things work out. Some things you can’t rush and I wanted to make sure I gave the site the full amount of time that I paid for. Note, any money you pay to a site like this doesn’t go for extras. It just goes for the membership privilege. If you want to submit music for evaluation or other purposes, that costs extra.

Thanks for posting this! I just got a comment on ReverbNation suggesting that I use them. It didn’t sound right to me, and a quick search lead me here!

scam The Dynamic Universe Blog”. In any event . I personally loved the post!
    Thanks for the post-Alicia

Alicia: The blog POST is called Number one music…The Dynamic Universe part is just the name of my blog. Not the name of the post. Thanks for reading. It’s probably is just listed that way wherever you found the link.

Yeah… just got an email from “Alison Macondray”, obviously a fake person using a photo stolen from some 16 year old girl’s old MySpace page. She supposedly listened to my music on MySpace and was blown away. Yeah… right. That song has been sitting on 5 listens since I uploaded it in 2001. Also.. the email came directly from N1M and not through MySpace with no link even to my MySpace page. So not only are they running a scam, but I’d bet they bought email addresses that were hacked recently:

  7. Its bogus
    March 16, 2013 at 10:55 am

If you do a google search on the email addresses and names of the people that supposedly signed up to your mailing list, you will find that it truly is bogus. A Scam. Some of the people on my mailing list were Deceased, Some were high profile lawyers and congressmen. Its unbelievable.. to think this site could have been a cool way to promote your music, instead it’s just a scam. BEWARE

    • March 16, 2013 at 5:08 pm

This website is a complete SCAM run by BOTS!!!!! I have proof in my e-mail inbox of two separate e-mails sent to me, from two different e-mail address, but EXACTLY the same message inside word for word. I’ve noticed some fishy things with the website, and had my doubts, but now i have real PROOF!!! Don’t be fooled!!!! AVOID THIS SITE!!!!!

WOW I should have done search before I joined this site. I figure out it maybe a scam by exporting the emails and add them to my Facebook but as the fans accept me I notice all of the fans from a world the world are mutual friends on FB and on there timeline they all have the same last updated picture on the same date. SO Please Stay away from this Site.

  11. September 8, 2013 at 8:04 am

Yep, this site is a scam! My band has a policy of not paying for online promotion sites – we only use free exposure and then invite traffic to our website. We had a free account with N1M which has had no traffic since our ‘trial period’ expired. Recently we had a very flattering email from a ‘fan’ called Denis Khorev who wanted to buy one of our songs through N1M (which of course you can only do if you pay for a premium service) I was a little suspicious and googled his name – turns out he is the registered name for N1M domain in Russia!
Please be realistic about your chances of instant fame – do gigs, get fans, get genuine Facebook ‘likes’ and enjoy your music – Sadly there are always sharks around who will try to exploit your dreams – try not to feed them!

Wow I just got an email from Denis Khorev today. So I decided to do some research and it led me to your comment. Crazy. the only difference is he asked for my link to cdbaby or iTunes. This is definitely a scam. I am glad I was smart enough to do some checking. Thank you.

The amazing thing is that a new “fan” recommended it to me (never heard about them before) she wrote to me that her brother was real happy for using them… got what a shity world out there haha! I had a bad feeling already from the second day… too good to be true!! thanks for clearing it up for me!! hugz from Copenhagen 🙂

Oh yes, they are using ReverbNation to promote their hustle.
Always a new fan with a message that includes the idea to join numberonemusic.
      Sad.

My ‘new ReverbNation fan’ Glenna Bova directed me to N1m. Reviewed my ‘Awesome’ song without even listening to it. Gifted wee thing, ain’t she. Another Ego Massage site is Radio Airplay (formerly Jango). (WWW should be renamed Wild West Web; full of snake oil salesmen.)

    • December 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Please break down your thoughts on Jango.

      • December 27, 2013 at 3:45 pm

        Hello Guys,

Re Jango/ Airplay; got 163 fans & fans email addresses = No sales via them and only one reply to emails sent. Unable to track any of my fans. Some positive comments were gibberish. Most Airplay users don’t know they have their own mailbox so sending personal messages a waste of time. I even set up a free dowload album from Bandcamp – called it FanJango – not one person even looked. So whether legitimate or bogus, for me, it was merely Ego Massage and a waste of my dwindling money.

There are many genuine users (ie me and my niece) just suspicious of some of my fan messages & comments. Seemed designed to keep me forking out my cash for no financial return.

Finally; does anyone think someone who uses a site which advertises “Free Music” is really into puchasing our songs.

(Sorry about delay in replying, first time i’ve been back since I posted and never received your (DM) reply).

        Cheers for now,

        Newbigging

      • December 27, 2013 at 4:21 pm

That’s interesting because I accept the new definition of ‘internet fan’. I’m sure that person is “liking” and “Fanning” numerous artists. I think that nod of attention was spur of the moment and a quick decision and not really a statement of life-long devotion to any particular artist. My MySpace account became a haven of SPAM so eventually you stop checking. I’m sure EVERY band they follow or fan sends bulletins and press releases. Soundcloud is the same way. Everyone on there vying for attention and a chance. I know people that do use Earbits and RadioAirplay/Jango for their personal listening pleasure. I mean, I put Earbits on as background music. I fan other artists, but rarely am I compelled to stop, drop and buy that single. So I expect the same in return, for my music.
I think it’s legit, but I agree with your assessment and think it’s a site for people who want to stream music for free. And expecting some kind of big return from that pond is a mistake. Most underestimate how many people are actually listening to terrestrial radio. It’s a monstrous number that provides a smaller number of sales to listeners -and consider the number of repeat listens, ratio-wise.
So thank you replying and adding to the blog.

    • rick
      December 7, 2013 at 1:34 pm

I wondered Radio Airplay as well……thought they would be legit because I signed up through cdbaby.

      • October 25, 2016 at 5:04 pm

I used Radio Airplay (previously Jango) and got the same results. Fans kept trickling in daily but they were all from random places around the world. Never got a single pass-through to my site or store; never got a single response to fan-emails. It’s clear to me there are several companies that try to take advantage of aspiring artists trying to get some traction online.

      • Kim Kondrashoff
        October 25, 2016 at 7:50 pm

That’s why I left them myself. It took multiple emails from me informing them I no longer wanted their services. From fraudulent companies advertising on their website at the same they’re telling me how wonderful they are…all the while offering me a bunch of bogus deals…at the same time warning me that If I was to close my account…I’d lose all these supposed fans I’d built up over a couple years.

  16. December 5, 2013 at 9:47 pm

Ditto to many above comments. I have sent emails asking if Number1music is real. The day after I sent the email all of a sudden I got more fans signing up. I have sent out bulk emails to the “supposed” fans and got tons of bounced emails stating not deliverable or permanently deleted and a few had just signed up as a “fan.” Definitely a number 1 scam,,,

  17. December 7, 2013 at 3:51 pm

I did a bit of research in Jango/RadioAirplay as I too, linked from CDBaby and followed some of my ‘fans’ to facebook. They had legit pages with content and seemed to like music overall – since they had the usual fanstuff on their walls. They looked normal so I felt like it was legit. Plus you can always watch your traffic live and communicate with your listeners via instant text. So unless there’s compelling evidence otherwise, I’d say RadioAirplay is legitimate. And I’ve contacted them for tech support and they seem on the up and up.

I use Earbits too and the only thing you have to be careful about these radio stations is translating ‘fans’ and ‘Likes’ into direct sales. When I’m on the computer, I’ll put earbits on in the background and just listen to the stations. If there’s a song I like, I usually click the Like button and sometimes like the band’s page on facebook. Rarely would I join a mailing list or go to their BUY page and spend any money. I’m not that kind of fan. Clicking is more of an appreciation thing.

Thank you for your information. It was very helpful. I started to wonder about the fans I was getting. James Emerich

All these sites are the same, what your paying for is promotion and your gonna spend money to get the word out. Age and experiance will teach you that. Everyone wants money and has to figure out how to get it. Just watch out for the tricks and the rest is easy. Make the best music you can and don’t get hung up on yourself for being to wise. Everything cost money unless your playing to a wheat field in Nebraska.

  20. December 22, 2013 at 5:11 am

I have got the very same odd emails. It would be too good to be true. Thanks for your great article !!!

  21. December 27, 2013 at 1:09 am

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our free trial is about to end for Number One Music and we were debating on whether or not to pay for the full membership but something didn’t feel right. The fan mail seems too good to be true and you are correct does stroke your ego! But you can never discount common sense or the feeling you get when something feels to good to be true. Thanks again!

Well I’m in on this too. I’m a member of N1M. But, I haven’t given them any money nor do I intend to. I just have the free account which only allows three song uploads. But I get MANY mailing list sign ups daily. Plus, just today, I got an email from a guy saying how talented I was and that 2014 holds a lot of good things for me. Well, that’s great. But I’ve been making music, recording, and doing live shows for most of my life so don’t bullshit me. I guess when some people get their ego stroked they think they’re somebody. But anybody that’s been in the music business long enough knows that the ONLY reason people stroke your ego is because they think they can get something from you. VERY few people in the music business are sincere about anything they say. All they see are dollar signs. But I too have been suspicious of N1M. Too many plays too soon, too many mailing list joiners too soon, and no promo done that I know of. I don’t even really understand how the site works. But I only have the free three song account and have absolutely no intention of paying them any money ever. But the other thing that concerns me is that my songs on there are my songs that I’ve written and recorded. If the site is indeed a scam, what are the chances of my songs being in any kind of jeopardy??

    • January 3, 2014 at 3:04 pm

I’d say none. There’s no one listening to them on that site. I figure it’s as safe as if it was sitting on Myspace.
What would they possibly do with your music?

  23. January 4, 2014 at 2:56 am

I suspected as much. Just recently activated a free account and I noticed a huge increase of plays, but no analytics to trace the source of traffic (always a sure sign of faked traffic). Only been involved a day as of this post. I was not surprised when I found this blog which validated my suspicions.

This is definitely one of the best things about the internet- being able to search for reviews about possible scams! It is really sad that we work so hard on our talent and passion, but have to deal with so many unscrupulous people just waiting to take advantage of our business needs. I have been ripped off plenty of times and am tired of it, so I am finally learning my lesson about not jumping into things without a little due diligence research wise. But I do need help with promotion and getting my music out there to possible supporters/fans. So where do we go if we want to invest in ourselves by hiring real promotion (at different budget levels, so we can still afford something even on a small budget)?

This blog was amazing by the way! I just received a message about number one music on my reverbnation too!

  25. January 7, 2014 at 11:44 pm

Darn, I thought we had some really good material due to the massive amount of fans. On the bright side we didn’t pay them a cent. LOL

  26. January 9, 2014 at 4:46 am

GLAD TO KNOW. Ugh… but other than that I still get compliments from word of mouth and my other REAL media sites. It did feel good at the moment haha. Also I had a feeling it was a scam look at the votes of people who have 500k+ views… they have no more than 20 votes.

Yup, what a big bullshit, too awesome to be true. I didn’t spend any cent on it but it makes you belive at the beginning. Have anybody sent an email to reverbnation? since they are using it as a channel to get us into the scam. At least they should check a list of the people that are inviting us to N1M and block them some how. Good luck to everyone in their projects, just keep fighting.

Thank you SO SO much for this blog! It has saved me a lot of heart ache and pain. And yeah, it’s a bit of a kick in the nuts, but hey ho….at least it was nipped in the bud.

No point getting into my experienced because it’s echoed above. I got this email today from some random fan telling me that my song was their “anthem for the day”. Just total BS and I replied thanking them; but it bounced. I’ve only been with them 3 weeks and haven’t paid a penny, so all is good there – but it seemed a bit fishy and too good to be true.

So yeah…onward and upward musicians! Stay strong!

This was VERY helpful and I cannot thank you enough for sharing your wisdom…I want to know, Am I In danger of any potential identity theft or bank fraud or hacking from numberone music???? I’ve been using it for a couple months now and am deleting account today!!!

  32. March 1, 2014 at 10:44 am

Awesome post and much appreciated. Confirming my suspicions, I went in to delete the account, but found, as before, that any source of information is a time vampire leading nowhere.

So I used my bio to report the scam on my front page. …”This site will give bogus fans, hoping you’ll pay for a membership.”

    Probably worthless but…

  33. March 2, 2014 at 5:37 pm

thanks for the blog and many comments about N1M… i’ve first joined them last fall, for free and then as a paid member so i could post more songs. just today i received an email telling me one of my songs is #1 on the US alternative and folk charts, and several others are charting up there too. i checked into their charts and there i am. yet i have no idea why, since i haven’t been promoting these songs. i have exported the many N1M fan addresses so will try to see where an emailing to them leads, but i suspect mostly to non-existent accounts per the above comments.
so i plan to discontinue my N!M account and save future pennies. if anyone knows of more legitimate sites for fanbase building, please post. i already use Broadjam and an on Reverbnation. thanks all for a good discussion.

  34. March 3, 2014 at 1:48 pm

great post! I got the email on reverbnation recently and signed up for the free trial on N1M. I am getting a suspiciously large amount of fans from that sight. Interestingly, I have added them to my mailing list, and have not received any bounce backs, and in fact had a few actually follow a link in the email I sent to my nimbit.com site and download a free track I was offering. But I am still very wary of actually signing up. I will see wait and see if any of the new “fans” actually remain in existence after the trial period.

Hi, Is there a phone number, I can reach you at so I may speak with you further on this and talk about possible legal actions, even if it is the removal of the site? My email is hsu@hypostaticunion1996.com . Thanks….. Doc

  38. March 30, 2014 at 8:25 pm

I also signed up for the mailing list to see if the emails from the mailing list were even going out, and I never received the email from the twice a month e letter your allowed to send. Why wasn’t the email sent to me. I paid for the 15$ a month and have the list. Sent the email out and nope, nothing to me. I’m canceling and looking elsewhere!!!!!!

  39. March 31, 2014 at 2:20 pm

since i already paid in advance for a year, i still “work” my N1M site…

2x/month, i send out emails to all my N1M “fans” and, although i get a few complimentary emails back each time, none of these “new fans” has ever “liked” my FB artist page, “fan’d” me on Reverbnation, nor subscribed to my YouTube channel (i always ask them to do so). i continue to have several songs charting well on N1M, and usually this is traceable to simultaneous promotions i’m running via other methods. so it does seem like someone at NIM is paying attention, somewhere, and manipulating their data…

i plan to stay connected to this discussion thread until my pro membership runs out later this year… my advice for now: use N1M for “free” only, do more homework before spending a nickel with anyone… AC

  40. April 7, 2014 at 10:56 pm

Agreed..i have had the same experience…but when I ask about a specific fan, like “who exactly are you, where do you live, how did you find my music on this site, what is your last name?” – no response. Felt scammy. Then after N1M sends me alot of follow-up ‘hey, keep in touch with your fans, they haven’t heard from you in awhile’, and i did just that to see what would happen, suddenly I am asked to upgrade my account AGAIN. Scammy…

Up until one of the emails (that i responded to 2 minutes after having received it) bounced back as a cancelled account. It all looks like a whole bunch of losers here! I do represent The Nexxt band which has been enlightened here as a scam associated act. YOU, Yes You ‘Zone of Ark’ should be treated as panic annoying person – briefly (a loser) who are trying to discredit the names over the internet. We’ve been in top 20 MTV USA, Canada in 2004 for several weeks and we’ve spent already more than 8 years with N1M platform which is working great for us by gaining many fans all over the world http://numberonemusic.com/nexxt/
There are hundreds of thousands bands on n1m which are satisfied. You said that you got your refund, so why do you pretend scammed? They did not run away with your money and i think it’s fair that you get your refund when you’re not satisfied. You can find scam reports for any business out there which is connected to millions of users, for ex. try to google for Reverbnation scam. Ok I’m done here, but you should be punished & charged in first place for discrediting our band name here!

You know what I think “Denis”

I think you and your band Nexxt got screwed by the music business and you decided to get revenge by doing the same thing to others.

Very uncool. And criminal to boot.

But nobody here is trying to discredit your band Nexxt. Actually the song and video are really good. Too bad it didn’t go further.

The main issue for everyone here is your company “N1M” is using bots for fake plays and sending fake copy paste fan emails to falsely inflate peoples egos so they keep coming back to part with their money when none of the “fans” are real and NEVER buy a thing from artists at N1M OR answer any of the email sent to them.

Its a scam from top to bottom.

Hey Denis…it was me..who got the refund ( I had to hound ”Fastspring” endlessly to get my money back)…after sending ”Fastspring” countless emails…in regards to NM1 music & the ”supposed” countless plays I had…the ”supposed” 1700 fan base I ”supposedly” built up…the personal emails I got from many of these ”supposed” fans basically saying my music was the greatest thing they ever heard…the problem was when I sent out emails to each & every one of my ”supposed” fans…all 1700 of them……( I did this numerous times! ) many of the emails bounced back saying…”deactivated”…”not valid email”… & not 1 response did I get with the ones that went through…not one response! Even with all the ”personal emails” I got from my ”supposed” fans that said my music was the greatest thing they ever heard! Not 1 response!…Not 1! I even tracked down some of these ”supposed” fans on F.B.& their the pages said ”no activity”…I sent them messages anyway…nothing…Rick said it all in 8 words…

And the real sad thing here is if the music industry didn’t screw Denis and his band Nexxt, this post wouldn’t exist.

Denis and others like him were “made” by a corrupt industry that has been preying on the hard work of artists for 75 years.

Thanks to the internet, their grip is finally being broken on our work but we need to be careful not to get scammed by the scammed.

  76. July 20, 2014 at 3:52 am

I read lots of Blogs and comments about N1M being a scam, but felt I should, perhaps, give N1M the benefit of the doubt. So to prove to myself what the actual situation was with them, I sent them an email, telling them about the comments, and that I had sent many emails to the subscribers asking them to confirm they were real Non came back. My feeling was that if someone was genuinely interested in your music, they would have replied. N1M sent a reply, blaming all the negative comments on phishing and illegal access to their website by hackers.
They suggested I go through my subscribers and weed out the fake ones. I asked them how would I recognise a fake subscriber and they did not reply. I then added my son and his email as a subscriber, and asked for confirmation. My son never received any notification from N1M that I had requested confirmation, but N1M listed him as having accepted. So to all those people who knocked N!M as a scam, you were and are correct

I immediately noticed something was wrong with the email responses when we were receiving them. The guitarist for my band signed us up for Number 1 Music just like we’ve signed up for a dozen sites, through a message received on Reverbnation. Nothing in it seemed to make sense, and nothing added up. It was especially fishy when people were emailing a metal band saying how much the music “touched their heart.” Not that metal can’t do just that, but it’s not really what we’re about.
The messages felt really good at first, but the truth is there is no instant ticket to success. There is no golden website with millions and millions of loyal subscribers who listen to all different types of music and spread the word, so do not trust this sham of a website.

Here are some tips for how to choose doing business with any Internet site. If the site is unwilling to list ‘Corporate’ information including a ‘Careers’ page, then the site is most likely a scam. Legitimate corporations have no problems offering up their open jobs, listing corporate mailing address(es), corporate email addresses, corporate phone numbers, investor relations info and names of executives of the company. In fact, it’s a matter of pride with legitimate corporate businesses to create this corporate page. In fact, seeing this corporate information is a sign that you are doing business with a legitimate and reputable company. But, don’t blindly assume the existence of this information always means good things. You need to do a little more research.

Seeing the executive roster page may not be enough as scammers can put up fake information about people who don’t work there to appear legitimate. It is always recommended to Google the executive names (specifically, the CEO and CTO) to see if any information turns up on said person. If the person legitimately works for that business as an officer of the company, there will be at least some search results linking that person to that business name (i.e., LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook profile). There may also be SEC filings (if a public company) or press releases with statements from the executives.

On the other hand, companies unwilling to provide any corporate information about executives and also who hide solely behind a ‘Contact Us’ form as the means of getting in touch indicates that they do not want you to know who operates the site or where the site is based. And, not knowing who or where the company is usually means it’s a scam.. or worse, your money you spend may be funding something in a country that you might not want to fund. It also means you’re not likely to ever get in touch with anyone real, assuming you manage to get in touch with anyone at all. So, it’s always worth carefully screening any web site before you commit to spend your money. Better, it’s always good to know where the company is based in the world so you know where your money is going in the world and also how to get in touch if you need to contact the company’s corporate offices.

One final note, companies who hide behind anonymous WHOIS information, who don’t list corporate information and who use a .com domain are usually trying to hide that they are not a US based company. That by itself isn’t necessarily a problem if the site is truthful about their location in the world and who operates the company. It’s companies that don’t list any corporate information that are likely scammers.

I’ll leave you to run off now and apply what you’ve just learned to N1M to see if it passes the test.

  85. February 5, 2015 at 12:14 am

Can’t find my prior comments, but N1M is definitely a scam. I figured it out after paying $199 for diamond membership. Then tried to cancel for refund, and got no reply, so I deleted all my songs and wrote “f—k off” on page, and listed myself as being artist from Russia. I still got more “subscribers”, but about 2 days later they cancelled my account…no refund though. LOL. This N1M is a joke. It is legit to extent that real artists sign up and real fans CAN subscribe, or can they? My friend tried as a fan, but ran into problems too. Shut this scam down, and I suspect Reverbnation is gaining from this too. Frankly, I don’t trust ReverbNation either, but would not call it a scam. They WILL take your money with no real results, other than strange FB likes, lots of musician fanning, and false promises/rankings, etc.

Great posting man. I too spend tons of time not only working on my music, but also understanding my listeners, and relentlessly evaluating trends. It did not take me long to get suspicious of Number One Music, because they actually overdid it in their pitch. They had me way up there during the trial period, paired up with Sevendust, which is a major international act, and I just knew that could not be possible to get that many hits and fans, without any effort. My music is pretty good, but I am also realistic about it. Before I invested a dime on this company I decided to do some research of my own, and I am glad I ran into threads like yours and others that helped me save a lot of money. I am very careful with the dollars I have allocated to promote my music, and like any other investment I expect a return, and the return does not have to necessarily be financial at this point of the game, since I am still in the process of finishing recording an album and several singles, but a return in the form of reliable data that allows me to make educated decisions on how to allocate future promotion dollars, can be just as valuable as financial return.

Anyway… Thanks for the candid and very detailed feedback you gave on this company. I could smell a rat going in

I was suspicious but just forgot about the account. Recently I started getting their emails again and decided to see if they changed. It is still bullshit.

I deleted all but one song and posted a message that I was led to believe was an email…turns out it just posted on my profile page.

The message was about a promo for 2 albums for 20.00. I was getting the robot fans emails telling me how wonderful my music is but no one was buying. They were all mentioning the one song as their favorite.

I deleted the last song that was on there and the next day I get an email from a robot fan saying how that song was the best of all my N1M music list. They went on to say I could make it really big and that he would “support me till the end”.

    What a crock of shit.

They hide the cancel account link and when you finally find it it goes to your messages page.

Don’t waste your valuable time with this bullshit.

I believe Revebnation is just as big a scam!

    • December 12, 2015 at 7:02 pm

I haven’t personally used Reverbnation. With that said, musicians should always be cautious of sites offering for-pay services that promise to accept music for ‘consideration’. Blindly paying for submission consideration is a mixed bag and rarely wins. You don’t really know if the person or group on the back end will actually listen to your track (or if it even got submitted to them). Even if it does get a listen, the odds of actually ‘winning’ is very very low. It’s more likely the site is there to take your money and run rather than to actually listen to your music.

Legally, I still don’t fully understand how these sites aren’t considered a lottery. You pay money to enter to ‘win’. The only difference is that you also have to submit your music along with your payment. However, the odds of winning are no better than entering a lottery. Since music tastes are entirely subjective, the odds of having your track picked (i.e., winning) is about the same as entering a lottery alone. There’s effectively no difference between the two concepts. How these sites continue to operate and not be called out as illegal lotteries is still beyond me.

For the musician, you should never have to pay to submit anything. The better investment is to take your music and pay to have a CD produced and your music distributed digitally through iTunes, Amazon, etc. This is a much more worthwhile investment. By distributing your own music, you have much better odds of people actually wanting to buy and listen to your music.

Also have a budget for promotion…or your music will be just another grain of sand at the beach.

      • December 13, 2015 at 7:11 am

        Hi Kim,

While bands and musicians can budge for and spend on banner ads, print ads and various other types of advertising, that may not be enough to entice people to go listen to the music. I also wouldn’t recommend that as one of the first ways to promote music. Your best promotion is performing a live show. Booking gigs and hanging big QR code banners that link to your iTunes music during your shows will bring fans and ultimately music purchases. I would also suggest a Facebook page, Tweeting from twitter accounts and using all free social media outlets before spending money. Yes, you can spend for advertising, but I wouldn’t do that until you’ve conquered the live gig, a proper web site, published music somewhere and are properly set up for social media.

        December 14, 2015 at 9:14 pm

Hi Commorancy, I’ve known countless artists ( yes music is subjective ) that have done what you’ve suggested…& financially it didn’t amount to much…unfortunately as the old saying goes, ” money talks & b…s… walks.” Usually…there’s a very big machine with a very big budget behind the artists that become house hold names / success stories. I’ve read stories about artists getting phenomenal airplay on some of the sights you’ve mention above & what they got in return was not exactly on par.

Got to say you are spot on with most of your comments re numberonemusic but will add most of the music promotion sites are about them making money and not you.I am a member of numberonemusic.com and already smelled the rat however in the big picture of a desperate world of making any cash from music its just another way to promote but will add they are as you said people who are paid in rubbles sitting at home in russia with a bottle of vodka to keep therm warm and a measly addition to their poor incomes.Easy to do and they will make money as the ego is always bigger than the reality for most people especially artists of any sort seeking a little fame.In retrospect we know if our music has legs by simply being realistic and on listening to most of numberonemusic tracks being in the number one position one has to ask oneself if its that easy to get your track to number 1 then lets all make music.Overall its about the only success their going to have so let em have it.Check out Eastern Kings and i think you will see we are wasting our time and $ on the site.

I just signed up NumberOne Music and part of it seems to be legit. My songs are being recommended by other (real) music artists on the site, and that is how it works: we earn Blincoins to get our own songs recommended (e.g. on Facebook) by recommending other artists on our Facebook pages. The artists on there are all real, and they are the ones doing the recommending. We can listen to their music and read their profiles. It works by social networking. I get different numbers of “hearts/likes” on each song and it is not too many so it makes me think they are real. The email lists may be a different story, though. From the comments above, it seems that those may be a scam as part of the bogus “upgrade” version. I just have the free version and have no plans to pay for the upgrade, thanks to all of your helpful and enlightening comments. It seems from what some of you are saying that the “free trial” period ends. It didn’t say anything about that when I signed up. Maybe it was in the fine print. I will see what happens I guess. I did also get an initial email from “Alison,” who said she loved one of my songs on the Internet. Likely, “she” was just blowing smoke to get me to sign up.

Kevin… what you are seeing as “legit” is classic pyramid scheme bullshit. Other members of NOM “liking” your music so they can inflate their own presence is classic pyramid mentality… getting real people to act just like bots is cheaper than actually hiring programmers to build bots, and unlike the Facebook “like” scams in India, they don’t have to pay anyone. You get fake currency that’s only good on the scam website if you promote other members of the website? It’s a con and a head game, pure and simple.

  102. October 30, 2016 at 11:20 am

OMG I just got an email from “Allison” and decided to check it out and do my homework before I did anything… That was only 2 hours ago. It didn’t take me long to come to this blog . I even looked at their chart for artists in my area and when I went to the profile the only member of their band was Allison description read- U contacted me. No liknks no info about the artist nothing. So I suspect that they are using artist work to get clicks and revenue from song plays all the while they get paid anyway… the service isn’t free they are making a profit from your work during the free trial. I am so glad I found this before I gave up any rights to my songs to a bunch of crooks! WOW… crazy!

Wow, since this blog is going on six years old and everything bad about N1M is true. You can simply find a valid band or musician on N1M and go to there facebook and see the exact same “fans” leaving the exact same comments they left for you over and over for the last six years. TOTAL SCAM! I emailed N1M my concerns and the next day my account was gone! I suggest we all sign up for the free account and post the scamming parity to all.

Hello Musicman, 2 things I think could really work well..#1 getting the authorities on board re: fraud…now for the hard part…what authorities? You can forget the Russians.. I would like to think & hope…possibly getting some bigwig that belongs to a watch dog group in the States….to take up the cause? # 2 An endless stream of promotion on as many music sites as possible re: how crooked they are. Until then for them (hopefully not) it will be business as usual on un suspecting songwriters

I just received two identical emails (apart from the name of the track that was …ahem..’AMAZING!’) from Alison Macondray with info obviously taken from two VERY old MySpace band accounts I had and almost forgotten about. Thought I’d just Google and see what they were up to. Thanks.

Just got email from Alison today. Checking it out online. Found you. Thanks!
I wasn’t going to respond anyway. I know my music is not “amazing!” Shoot — half of the songs on my CD (from fifteen years ago) were recorded in my living room on a cassette tape recorder while I was home sick from work. Definitely not “amazing,” although I did get a nice review from our local Blues Society.

Just got caught, exact same thing lots of mail and so I signed up last week and then I see this and noticed within a day, not everything was as it seemed. I have today asked my bank to retrieve the money from PayPal, as this was only taken off my account 3 days ago, I expect my money back. I am also on Reverbnation and have always been happy there.
    Thanks for the warning

    Merry Xmas everyone

  111. January 5, 2017 at 7:02 pm

I just got the same email from Alison. Wow, she thinks my music is AMAZING! Even i don’t think my stuff is AMAZING, lol. Thanks for writing this article. My bedroom producer ego inflated like a balloon when i got “her” email. But dammit, if i get someone lionizing my art, i want it to be a flesh and blood music lover, for Pete’s sake. Thanks!

  112. January 5, 2017 at 11:11 pm

Honestly, the best way to deal with N1M is not to. Simply avoid them, avoid signing up and delete any emails sent to your address from them. If you feel you’ve been ripped off by one of their ‘memberships’, I do wish you luck in refund recovery. Your best bet is disputing with your credit card company instead of writing emails to N1M asking for refunds. Your chances are better with your credit card company. You can even point out this blog article to your credit card company as proof of the scam. Once your dispute is done, I’d definitely recommend you to delete anything on their site and then go find a better place to promote your music.

As a word of caution, any site that requires you to pay money to ‘enter’ your music for consideration is to be deemed dubious at best. While some of those ‘promotions’ may be real, you have to also understand your chances of ‘winning’ are about as good as a lottery. In fact, they _are_ a form of a lottery. Because of that, I don’t understand why those pay-for-consideration song sites aren’t considered illegal. Paying to play a lottery is considered illegal, at least within the US. Your chances to actually win that ‘lottery’ and have your song selected are about as good as playing any other lottery. While it’s up to you to decide how to spe.. er throw your money away, paying for consideration is about as sleazy as it gets (hello Music XRay) and what I consider equally sleazy to N1M’s business model.

  113. January 5, 2017 at 11:24 pm

I should clarify the pay to play a lottery statement in my previous post. The only legal lotteries are obviously state run lotteries (which I was not including in my previous post). All ‘for pay’ private corporation lotteries are to be considered illegal within the US. I know someone is likely to point this out simply to be argumentative, so I just wanted to beat them to it.

    Happy New Year!

  114. January 6, 2017 at 10:24 am

Thanks for this article. I found my way here after receiving an email from N1Music. This was odd only because it referenced a very short music project I might still have on myspace that I posted over a decade ago and never looked at since. The message had a glowing review and suggested N1Music as a place for promotion. Glad I came here first!

  115. January 6, 2017 at 9:58 pm

I was in doubt these days, it really sounded too good to be true, and after ranking up the charts and receiving fan’s emails (coincidently very good looking girls) asking for more, I wrote a nice message to them, excitingly thanking them for the interest. So I was about to pay the membership, since the offer for -100$ ends tomorrow.
Luckily a part of my brain told me to wait, calm my ego and search for more info about this website.
It all looked fake since the beginning after all… But you all know, we all dream for that moment to come sooner or later.
Maybe later. Thanks for your post and your wise insights. It’s still useful after all these years. It’s hard to believe this scam is still on.
    Keep on rockin’, everyone.

Thanks a lot for this article. I have also been sucked in the N1Music false dream.
In today’s over populated and corrupt world many people are tried to make a living selling dreams. It’s a real shame that we can’t trust anyone but oneself.

I am a user of this page a long time ago.
Like everyone else, I have had my suspicions. I think we have to differentiate two things.

I upload a lot of material to that page, videos, songs, DJ sessions etc.
That generates an expense, and nothing on the internet is free. If you pay for upload and web space I do not see it wrong. Many pages are for payment. Soundcloud is crap, a lot of spam, but people who listen to music are there.

    2. If you pay money thinking about world promotion and make you famous, you’re crazy. I have never had two repeated messages, some comments I have seen well, some very dubious, I have seen robots and human people living together.

I do not show music to make myself famous, I pay money to spend a space that is not mine, and that is worth money. I can show more than 50 songs ??? More than 15 videos ??? all free?? we are crazy??

The music has other mechanisms to make you popular, it does not work like that.
These pages can improve your position at a personal level, the internet is global.
There are pages with a lot of traffic, if you are a good musician and you are lucky, it is not strange that someone sends you a message. Another thing is the theater and the fiction.
If we let ourselves be carried away by disappointment, it is better that we do not show music on any website, everything is a scam, everything is a lie, but we forget that there are people who visit websites, listen to music, want to discover new artists …
And that is impossible to manipulate.
    sorry for my bad english

  119. January 27, 2017 at 2:30 am

    Dora

I’ve been listening to your music in these last couple of days non stop, I played your music for my friends at a dinner party and everybody instantly loved it.

  123. April 6, 2017 at 2:21 pm

I came here to find help to delete my account. Only N1M can delete it.

I didn’t want my band name or email associated with the band name to come up in searches with N1M. I had emailed a long time ago asking to for them to delete my account and clearly they did not.

    Here’s what I did:

Removed my music, and photos uploaded a profile cover and pic that says “scam won’t delete me” and I changed my user name to delete and my url to http://www.numberonemusic.com/deletemenow and changed my email contact there to an old yahoo email that isn’t associated with my band.

I hope this helps anyone who is stressed about trying unsuccessfully to remove their accounts. Now it doesn’t matter and I never have to waste any time thinking about them again.

Pearl would like to recommend y/our music via N1M. Cool partial picture of “Pearl” with (supposedly) her quote saying “lead footed mama you know I think all I can say is… wow.” Funny thing is when I clicked to view her invitation it took me to a N1M page to create a free account. I never pay for anything unsolicited until I’ve fully vetted it and NEVER provide my primary email/contact info either. I was not the least bit surprised that I could not find “Pearl” anywhere on the N1M site or her quote about our band and our song 😀 . I’ll leave our band profile up with one song that can be streamed (never downloaded for free – sheez :/ ) with a link to our band page where our music is available for passers by to enjoy and possibly purchase via iTunes/Amazon etc if the are so inspired.

Ha! Yeah, I totally just got the same email you mention in your update. In fact, it is how I ended up here. Good looking out!

  126. April 20, 2017 at 6:13 am

They’ve been around a long time really though – vis this post date 2012 – to say that domains frequently cease to exist as an annual fee comes round and there’s ample opportunity to change names and content to avoid detection if their game is really a scam – obviously they hope to succeed with it as a brand…
Funny thing is that the song they’re trying to buy on N1M should be easy enough to download from elsewhere with any of today’s utilities made for the purpose.

The Reverbnation account did have the [2010] tune, I hadn’t checked in there in an age [years], though and it’s now no longer found on the profile which is marked as ‘under construction’. It’s found easily enough on MySpace though.

    Tip:
    Using Google’s search page, type e.g.;

    site:myspace.com songname artist etc

…and the results will only be from that website,

So when I looked for the person on N1M and couldn’t find them, and this after their email invitation link looked like it was something other than the homepage – I already assumed it was spam.

So then while on the Google home page I started typing Number One Music and top of autosuggested search terms is, Number One Music scam

Still, why not risk a visit – I went on the site and the name I searched for did actually reveal results, just not for anyone of that name…

So, spam and scam is my evaluation, at best just spam and unscrupulous money grabbing – somewhere you will be getting what you pay for and it will be laid out in terms you’ll have to agree to.
Reading the reviews and visting links to pages like this should spell the end of stuff like that –
    – but there’s another one born every minute.

Maybe I am in the wrong “Business” but I play for fun, and creativity, and I share my stuff on youtube,, on Reverbnation, and on many other web sites. Not too rich, so that helps curtail unnecessary spending. N1Music is :Localised” to their listening audience just in case “plagiarism” is reported by the “richer” artists who now have embedded codes which can detect whether their “chord sequence’ is played in Timbuctoo, which by coincidence is also a place for data banks and likes. Facebook is an offender too, so don’t be too crash hot on paying them for listens (Check Veritasium, facebook fraud”), either or getting numbers on your pages. Of say 5000 people, the interactive ones are those who joined one by one, after the ads ended. They are promoted by “genuine” people. I’d say 6900 people are genuine people, and they likes cannot all be generated by bots. I do not promote via cash, I pay by “blincoins”/ Yes, I pay their “annual subscription” and that is what it is. No shows, no gigs, no cash paid for their “get more customers” because even Reverbnation, though lauded, has the same “problem”. The artists on Reverbnation, do not, like many other artists, “promote your music”. They want to be heard, and they are not interested in your’s being heard. BUT, there are the genuine ones who will become your fans “Soundcloud” for example. I’d say go with “artists” but the “Artists” are a selfish bunch, on the whole! Pray then for the one “genuine” They do exist.

    Refunds Are Possible!!

I just wanted to share that if you have been fooled into paying for membership or the likes that if you get in touch with FASTSPRING.com & share with them your complaint, they will refund your money. So don’t wait it out, complain asap.

These people need to be accountable & if taking money back from them is the most we can do for now then so be it.. Fastspring may even take them on if enough people complain.

Good blog:) Thank you. I suspected something was off when someone sent me multiple messages via Number One Music, asking if they could play a song of mine from 2008, and if they could interview me. Now why and how would someone contact me through N1music when I had never even visited the site, let alone be a member of it?

Regardless, a popular way to make money when you’re not a part of the entertainment industry is to prey on those that are trying to get into the industry. Don’t give N1music your hard earned money.

I set up a free account years ago and forgot about it. At the time I set up a lot of accounts with every service that was free as well as iTunes, CD baby etc. I changed my email so I never got messages. So I logged in a few times and figured it was a scam when I had 58,000 plays for a free page. the good thing about reading your article is i rechecked all my pages and I have so money coming from iTunes and Cd baby. i wont get rich but i would not have checked all those pages otherwise. I never stopped playing or writing just stopped depending on social media to get noticed. I got the post from Alison Macondray (Ivan) too lol keep writing and playing and if you use social media try your Facebook page. If your friends do not blow you up nobody else will.

Thank you so much for this article. I just signed up for Number One Music and had the same experience of getting tons of “plays” and people who are “desperate” for my music. It was when I got a message from a second “desperate” person that I started getting a little suspicious because like you, I make niche music that isn’t nearly as popular as other genres. So I looked up N1M scam and sure enough, your article popped up with about a dozen others. So, thank you for writing this. Ugh! Another one got me again! First TheAkademia.com, then the song writing competitions (many of them, or really all of them in my opinion), and now NumberOneMusic.com!

The first sign is that when you write back, you don’t get a response. Then my emails are collecting up more and more. I sent out a private video of what I’m working on, not one view on YouTube! I got more responses from ReverbNation than all of them, and even then it was just a handful.

Then they write, dying to hear more, so I sent them the link to the private video… Nope, not one click! the other thing is that when you promote a video, it’s all from Russia. Love the Russians, but what’s up with that? Are Americans not watching? UK, no?

Makes me want to start my own site.

I got sucked in too unfortunately…over about 4 months threw up some old material just for the hell of it and periodically got the “fan” messages similar to above……..one day just thought I’d dig a bit deeper/do some research and came across this and a couple of other warnings……so as a test I downloaded the subscriber email list and sent out a private blast – and sure enough mostly returned undeliverable except for one guy who replied he wasn’t interested so that kind of proves it’s a scam right there.
Interesting, they deleted the first message I sent to “megan” who was the DJ who invited me…..who had her”assistant” reply that she was on extended leave and she’d get back to me (I should have smelt the rat then but I was pre-occuplied with other more important stuff 😉 ….I’m guessing they somehow got into the old myspace archives and dug up some potential hopefuls…..wow!!
I echo all other comments – it’s a scam and don’t buy into it

I did get my money back from them as well…as a matter of fact I was the one who initiated it…I would think if numerous people were also demanding their money back from N1M Fastspring would question their business ethics or lack of.

I signed up on february10th 2018 and in a week an a half I was # 1 in Phoenix , # 1 in Arizona , # 7 etc. I then bought $49.00 of blincoins and never received them. I received an e-mail telling me the transaction went through , still no coins. I e- mailed them and no response , I put a message on my site and still no response , then I looked at my on line credit account to find they reversed the charge rather than give me the 1000 coins. While reading this article and as I read the last paragraph the picture of MABEL was below and she was also on my NETWORK. VERY STRANGE INDEED. N1M NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS.

I really appreciate your article as well as some very knowledge-able advice that you shared. I very much agree with every single aspect of what you had to say, I almost got sucked into the N1M vaccuum, but because of the level of detail in your article I was able to avoid wasting my time. If I might be so bold to mention that I have been working with Mixbank and can tell you that you might want to check out what they are doing, its a bit slow to get off the ground but its legit stuff.
    Thanks

Yes Numberonemusic or N1M is a REAL SCAM indeed! After having some critisism on the FAKE ACCOUNTS of people who “liked” my music (and of course encouraged me to buy a payed account) my account was deleted. (huhuh..) I actually have to thank the N1M “helpdesk” because they would not even pay me their “blincoins” after I posted a song on my facebook. Thank you for your article… I should have known better …

I had doubts of this site because I was supposedly getting tons of plays. How could I be getting this much attention when I dont at Reverbnation or Soundcloud? Good article

    • it’s a scam or a fraud, depending only on if you paid (upgraded) or not…

AS A BUSINESS, IT’S OK THAT THEY WANT YOU TO UPGRADE TO PREMIUM AND PAY

    • BUT IN ORDER TO CONVINCE YOU TO UPGRADE, AFTER A WHILE USING THE BASIC FREE, SUDDENLY YOU ARE FORCED TO UPGRADE OR ELSE…SUDDENLY YOUR ACCOUNT GETS EFFECTIVELY BLOCKED

    • THIS IS DONE BY REJECTING ALL YOUR PROPOSED SONG CAMPAIGNS, SO YOU CAN’T SPEND ANY OF YOUR BLICOINS BALANCE SINCE NONE OF YOUR SONGS CAN BE RECOMMENDED. THIS MEANS ALSO YOU CAN’T EARN BC, SINCE YOU ARE OVER THE 100 BC LIMIT. SO YOU’RE OUT

    • THIS IS BAD, BUT THERE IS MUCH MORE WORSE THINGS: ONCE YOU ARE “PARALIZED” STRANGELY ENOUGH YOUR SONGS ALMOST STOP GETTING PLAYED OR VISITED. WHY?

    • THIS MEANS THAT ACTUALLY MOST OF THE STATISTICS YOU GET (PLAYS, VISITS, LIKES) ARE FAKE NUMBERS, COMPUTER GENERATED…IF SO, WHAT’S THE USE OF N1M?

    • TRUELY, NONE… IT’S OK TO ENJOY FREE N1M THINKING THAT YOUR MUSIC GETS HEARD AND PLAYED WIDELY. I SUSPECTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THAT THESE NUMBERS WERE’NT TRUE SINCE I GOT ZERO INCOME FROM SPOTIFY AFTER TENS OF THOUSANDS OF SUPPOSED N1M PLAYS, AND THIS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE, SO I KEPT INVESTIGATING…

    • I DISCOVERED ALSO THAT MOST OF THE MUSICIANS THAT SUPPOSEDLY RECOMMEND YOU AND BECOME “YOUR N1M NETWORK” EITHER DON’T EXIST OR ARE NOT ACTIVE AND PROBABLY ARE UNAWARE THAT THEY ARE LISTED AND RANKED AS N1M USERS. THAT’S WHY THOSE WHO RECOMMEND, ARE 99% LIKELY TO RECOMMEND AGAIN (SO SAYS N1M) BECAUSE ONLY A FEW OF THOSE SHOWN ON THE RANKINGS, ARE REAL, EXISTING, ACTIVE MUSICIANS…

    • THIS BECAME EVIDENT FIRST BY SENDING A MESSAGE TO MANY AND GETTING ALMOST NO REPLIES, AND ALSO BY NOTICING THAT MOST OF MY NETWORK WAS COMPOSED BY THE SAME PEOPLE OVER AND OVER AGAIN, WHICH PROBABLY ARE THESE (FEW) REAL ACTIVE USERS.

    • I GOT THE SAME RESULTS (AND NAMES) WHEN I REGISTERED IN N1M UNDER A NEW PROFILE (NAME, PLACE AND DIFFERENT SONGS OF MINE). STRANGELY, I QUICKLY ROSE AGAIN TO NUMBER 1 (THIS BOOSTS YOUR EGO AND INDUCES YOU TO UPGRADE, BUT IT’S A FAKE). OF COURSE N1M WILL “ELIMINATE” ME AGAIN, AFTER SENDING THIS CLARIFYING MESSAGE…

    • IN SUMMARY: N1M IS JUST A USELESS EGO BOOSTING GAME, BUT UNFORTUNATELY MOST OF THE SATISFACTION YOU GET (FOR FREE OR PAYING A REASONABLE 100€), IS BASED ON FAKE INFORMATION. IF YOU DIDN’T PAY, IT’S JUST A SCAM. IF YOU PAID, IT’S A FRAUD…

Reverbnation doesn’t ever do anything unless you pay…I won’t pay for something someone else will give me free..Soundclick is good…Number1Music gives you a basic membership free and you can do a little bit with it like communicate with your fanbase but by and large I agree it’s a waste as are song contests.
